Danmarks Designskole

The client is a group of academic lecturers and teachers whose job increasingly requires them to teach and conduct student consultations and tutorials with non-Danish students, in English.

We designed a course that would give them the vocabulary and fluency in English in their specific field of art and design, based on the following course outline:

  • Proficiency and practice of typical situations involving interaction with students, including tutoring, coaching, problem solving and consultation.

Expansion of vocabulary in the areas of:

  • the colour spectrum
  • tools and equipment used in art and design
  • definitions of the physical and esoteric qualities of objects (surfaces, edges, aesthetics)
  • Discussion and debate of current issues in the international world or art and design.
  • Practice of written correspondence (letters and emails)
  • Profiles of leading world designers delivered in the form of short presentations.

By the end of the course, the participants were much more confident in their daily interaction with their students. Their range of vocabulary was vastly expanded, enabling them to express concepts and qualities in a more nuanced and subtle way. They ended the course “armed” with banks of phrases, words and and expressions that were directly relevant to them and could be used on the job straight away.
