Written Danish

Target audience
This course is aimed at non-Danes as well as Danish nationals who wish to improve their written Danish. It provides students with the skills they need to write Danish fluently, correctly and coherently.

Course content
The course includes a thorough brush-up of written Danish, with an emphasis on spelling, punctuation and grammar. We focus on common errors such as:

  • word endings (køre / kører   -   rekvireret / rekvirerede)
  • the use of commas and other punctuation
  • compound words (projectkoordinator or project koordinator?)
  • possessive pronouns (sin or hans/hendes?)
  • singular and plural forms (nogen or nogle?)

The course also teaches professional writing skills that can be applied to report-writing, memos, formal letters and academic documents. Here, we work with the student’s own material and focus on developing a fluent, concise and natural writing style. The course aims to address the following:

  • what constitutes a good piece of writing?
  • are the correct words and terminology being used?
  • are sentences too short or too long?
  • do paragraphs flow coherently?
  • is the language varied enough?
  • are key messages expressed clearly to your reader?

Course structure
Courses can be organised for groups or on a one-to-one basis and would typically include between 30 – 40 lessons, with 2-4 lessons once a week. Students should be prepared to do written homework.
